Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and prominent businessman from Bihar, Gopal Khemka, was fatally shot late on Friday night near his home in Patna by an unidentified assailant riding a motorbike, police confirmed on Saturday.
The incident occurred at approximately 11.40 pm in the Gandhi Maidan area of the city.
“Officers of the local police station and personnel in patrolling vehicles immediately reached the spot and secured the crime scene. Forensic experts are collecting evidence. Investigation is underway,” SP (Patna Central) Diksha told reporters as reported by PTI.
She further added, “A bullet and a cartridge have been recovered from the spot. CCTV footage is also being examined. Preliminary investigation suggests he was gunned down by an unidentified bike-borne assailant.”
Family members of the deceased revealed that Khemka’s son had also been shot dead by criminals in Hajipur six years ago.
Gunjan Khemka, the proprietor of G K Cotton Mill, was fatally shot by a bike-borne assailant on December 20, 2018, near the entrance of his factory in the Hajipur Industrial Estate of Bihar’s Vaishali district.
The incident closely mirrors the earlier killing of his son, Gunjan Khemka, who was gunned down in a brazen attack just outside his factory gate in the Hajipur industrial area in December 2018, as per HT reports.
