Amid the summer rush, Indian Railways has cancelled or diverted over 300 train trips across several zones between June 1 and 2 due to planned maintenance and infrastructure upgrades. The widespread traffic blocks have impacted both suburban and long-distance trains, leaving passengers across the country grappling with sudden changes to their travel schedules.
Western Railway Faces 36-Hour Block
According to reports from ETV Bharat, Western Railway has enforced a 36-hour block starting 1 PM on June 1, resulting in the cancellation of 162 train trips, 73 on Saturday and 89 on Sunday.
Several routes have been diverted, with mail and suburban trains operating on fast lines, thereby skipping some regular stops.
Mumbai Suburban Services Disrupted
Central Railway's Mumbai division imposed a mega block on June 1, affecting 88 suburban train services. Slow trains from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) between 10:48 am and 3:45 pm were diverted to fast lines up to Vidyavihar, skipping regular halts at stations like Byculla, Parel, Dadar, and Sion.
Similarly, Harbour line services on the CSMT–Chunabhatti/Bandra section were impacted from late morning to late afternoon.
Northern and Southern Zones Also Affected
The disruptions are not limited to Maharashtra, added the reports. Northern Railway’s Bilaspur Division has cancelled six trains and diverted two more between June 2 and 6.
South Central Railway reported partial cancellations between Manmad and Parbhani due to maintenance work. Southern Railway’s Chennai Central–Gudur section remains blocked till June 2, cancelling 17 EMU and MEMU services.
