A 31-year-old woman has allegedly developed serious complications after she underwent family planning operation at Dhamnagar Community Health Centre (CHC) in Bhadrak district.
The patient, identified as Kshyatee Prava Barik, wife of Niranjan Barik, is a resident of Gopalpur village under Dhamnagar block of Bhadrak district.

As per reports, Kshyatee, a mother of two (seven-year-old girl and 14-month-old boy), underwent surgery by a team of doctors at a free sterilisation camp at the Dhamnagar CHC on July 17. She was kept under observation post operation and later discharged from the facility.
However, after returning home, she developed pain in her stomach after consuming food. As her condition worsened, Niranjan took her to the CHC from where she was referred to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Bhadrak and later shifted to the SCB Hospital and Medical College in Cuttack.
Following preliminary examination, doctors at the SCB MCH informed that Kshyatee’s food pipe had sustained a cut which was causing the pain and immediately took her for surgery. She was discharged after undergoing the surgery.
However, the family members of Kshyatee alleged that her condition has not improved as yet and she is in severe pain.
“I am undergoing extreme pain. The pain subsides for some hours after taking medicines. However, it returns after a couple of hours. I underwent family panning operation by laparoscopy but they (doctors at Dhmnagar CHC) cut the food pipe during the procedure,” alleged Kshyatee.
Meanwhile, Dr Deepak Nayak, In-Charge of Dhamnagar CHC, feigned ignorance about the issue.
“We are unaware of the cut in the food pipe and Dr Amarendra Jena, who conducted the operation, can only explain the complications in the case. However, adequate treatment has been provided to the patient and her condition is stable now,” claimed Nayak.
