The stone packing on the embankment of river Bhargavi near Haripur on Bhubaneswar-Nimapara road caved in only after six months of completion of work. Locals have alleged sub-standard quality of work that led to such incident.
The newly constructed stone packing could not withstand the season's first flash flood due to the poor quality of work, they alleged.
It was carried out on 200 metres long embankment on river Bhargavi in a bid to save 10 villages of Haripur panchayat from flash flood.

Locals demanded early repairing of the embankment as more rain is in the offing as per the prediction of weather department.
“This is due to the poor quality of work. Only after five-six months of works, the river bund caved in. What would happen to the embankment if more flash flood comes following heavy rain,” said a local.
On the other hand, water resources department authorities assured early repairing.
“The incident occurred due to the overflowing canal water. The repair work will begin within two-three days. Materials to be used in the construction have been gathered at construction site. We are taking it seriously and will start work at the earliest,” said S Mohanty, JE, Balanga Water Resources department.
