In a shocking incident, a minor boy died after he was reportedly slapped by his father at Habeli Jena Sahi under Nikirai police limits in Kendrapara district on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Deben Jena, 8, son of Sunakar Jena.
According to sources, Deben was suffering from fever. So, Sunakar brought some medicines for him and asked him to take them. When the boy refused to take the medicines, Sunakar in a fit of rage slapped him twice.
The boy’s health condition worsened late Saturday night following which his family members rushed him to Indupur hospital. The doctors at the hospital prescribed some medicines and sent the boy back home. However, the boy died early Sunday morning.
On being informed, police seized the body and sent it for autopsy. Meanwhile, the boy’s father has been detained.
“His father had brought some medicines for him as he was suffering from fever. Infuriated, he slapped him a couple of times. Later, he took him to the hospital where the doctors prescribed him some medicine. However, he died today morning,” the boy’s mother, Sarmila Jena said.
“His father had given him some medicine. However, when the boy did not take the medicines, he got angry and slapped him. We came to know after his mother informed us this morning,” said a neighbour.
