Bhadrak: The government’s tall claims of smooth management of evacuation during the recent cyclone ‘Yaas’ has fallen flat after hundreds of people at Lunga panchayat under Basudevpur block in the district who took shelter at a school building alleged sub-standard service of food to them for the last five days, thanks to administrative apathy.
Many evacuees in the nearby areas have returned to their home after the cyclone. Badakiari village under the Lunga Panchayat is still marooned due to heavy rain induced by the cyclone and high tidal waves, which forced them to take cover at the school building.
They alleged that no administrative officials have come to look after them since they were evacuated.
“Only after two days, a block level officer told us that local sarpanch would take care of us. We are living on a handful of puffed rice (Mudhi) and a small packet biscuit,” a victim said.

They alleged that local sarpanch asked to sign a register before giving them the dry food.
“Even before feeding us, he asked us to sign on the register. He didn’t bother about our food,” a girl taking shelter in the school room alleged.
According to reports, the people are forced to take cover at the school building as their village is still marooned due to heavy rain in the aftermath of the cyclone and high tidal waves even as many others in their nearby locality had come back to their home after the cyclone weakened.
