A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Orissa High Court seeking Central Bureau of Investigation into the mysterious death case of Gangapur Police station Inspector-In-Charge Deb Kumar Gamanga.
Bharatiya Bikash Parishad, a rights activism body, has filed the PIL in the Orissa High Court seeking high-level impartial probe into the case by the central investigative agency.
The petitioner has also demanded the polygraph test on the two policemen suspected to be involved in the death of the IIC.
The petitioner has mentioned the names of as many as seven parties including Bhanjanagar SDPO, IIC as respondents in the case.
On March 25, Gamanga died after sustaining two gunshot wounds from his service revolver below the waist under mysterious circumstances inside the campus of his police station.
While it is still not clear as to whether the firing was accidental or suicidal, police initially claimed Dev was under mental duress. However, Gamanga's wife dismissed such rumours and clarified that he was under severe work pressure.
The mother of deceased Gamanga has also said that two Inspector-ranked (3-star) police personnel were present with her son at the time of the incident.
The Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of Ganjam police has taken over investigation into the death case of the cop.
