Amid the furore over death of Dusmanta Das due to alleged denial of treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, another case of alleged medical negligence has surfaced at the premier hospital.
The family members of Khirod Chandra Sahu, who had been shot on his leg, alleged that the hospital authorities have not allotted a bed to him and refusing to provide necessary treatment.
Sahu, a native of Kandarpur area, was admitted to the hospital on September 8 after suffering gunshot injuries.

“My father was brought to the hospital three days back with the bullet injuries in his left leg. He has not been allotted a bed and the bullet is still embeded in his leg. In spite of my repeated attempts, neither police nor the hospital authorities are looking into it,” alleged Pragya Priyadarshini, daughter of the patient.
However, the SCB authorities said necessary treatment is being provided to the patient.
Bhubanananda Maharana, emergency officer of SCB said, “The bullet has not damaged his nerves or vessels. Besides, the crack facture does not need surgical intervention.”
“Now there is no emergency to remove the bullet. If the bullet is removed, it will be done electively. The focus will be on the conservative management of the patient,” Maharana added.
Clarifying on the non-allotment of bed, he said, “At present, the number of patients at SCB is quite high. Therefore, some patients are receiving treatment while staying on the floors.”
It is worth mentioning here that Dusmanta Das from Kujang of Jagatsinghpur died during treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack following a suicide bid outside the State Assembly on September 8. He had taken the extreme step as a mark of protest against the alleged denial of treatment by authorities at the SCB.
Today, twin city Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi said the investigation into Dusmanta Das death has been transferred to Cuttack police from Jagatsinghpur police.
