From today, people in Odisha, including the citizens of Bhubaneswar, can dial emergency toll-free number 112 instead of 100 for availing emergency services in times of distress.
The Odisha Police on Monday announced that henceforth 112 will be the emergency response number to avail assistance from the State Police department, including the Urban Police District (UPD) Bhubaneswar.

“UPD Bhubaneswar (Dial 100) is now integrated with Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) (Dial 112). We urge to the people of Odisha including UPD Bhubaneswar, please dial 112 in case of emergency rather dialing 100,” informed the Odisha Police through a tweet on Monday.
Earlier in March, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had launched 'Dial 112' Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) with an expenditure of Rs 157 crore wherein people can call at one toll-free number for all emergency services including police, fire and health.
With the introduction of the new response system, the emergency numbers like 100 for police department, 101 for fire department and 102 and 108 for ambulance services will be integrated into the 112 toll-free number in a phased manner.
It is believed that the latest move by the police is part of the larger integration plan.
