The toy train service at the Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) which remained halted after brief resumption is going to be back on track soon, informed the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) (wildlife), Shashi Paul, on Friday.
Paul said the repair works of the toy train is being undertaken by RITES Limited, a Central PSU under the Ministry of Railways and the service will resume within the next seven to 10 days.
“RITES Limited had carried out the repair works on the toy train and after completion of the works the services had resumed. However, unfortunately, the toy train developed some technical issues two days after launching of the service ,” Paul said.

“At present, employees of RITES are working on it. We are hopeful that the toy train service will resume very soon. It may take seven to 10 days for resumption of the service,” he added.
The toy train ride at Nandankanan had resumed at the zoo on October 8 after a seven-year long hiatus bringing smiles on the faces of the visitors. However, the joy was short-lived as the service halted following a short circuit in the engine soon after.
Speaking about the deployment of honey bees in warding off elephant herds, the PCCF said the plan received mixed results. While the plan worked at some places, it did not yield any results in some other areas.
The trial of the exercise is underway in Athamallick and Anantapur division and after its success, the plan will be extended to other places, he said.
