Bhubaneswar: A social organisation, Bharatiya Bikash Parishad, on Thursday filed an Interim Application (IP) in the Orissa High Court seeking direction to the Odisha government to bring Odisha Minister of State (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra in the ambit of the investigation into the murder of Kalahandi lady teacher Mamita Meher.
Last month, the outfit had also filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Rs 50 lakh compensation for the next of the kin of the deceased lady teacher. However, the organization said that the PIL is yet to be listed for hearing though three memos have been made so far. During the period, several startling facts relating to the murder case have also come out, said president, Bharatiya Bikash Parishad, Surendra Panigrahi.
"The deceased's father, while speaking to journalists had alleged that the Minister was a regular visitor to Mahaling College and would spend nights while being involved in immoral activities. Hence, in the plea, we have urged the HC to bring the Minister in the ambit of the murder investigation. His apart, the range DIG and Bolangir SP should also be investigated as there are allegations that they had connived to let the main accused, Gobinda Sahu, go,” said Panigrahi.
Worth mentioning, Minister Mishra, who has been under a cloud, had denied allegations that he had visited the school at Mahaling in Kalahandi district on November 17. While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, he had explained his association with Mahaling College as just the president of its governing body and nothing else. And Gobinda Sahu, the prime accused, happened to be a member of that body.
Notably, Mamita Meher (24), a resident of Jharni village under Turekela block of Odisha’s Bolangir district who worked as a teacher at the Sunshine English Medium School at Mahaling in Kalahandi district, had gone missing on October 8. On October 19,
her body remains were found buried at an under-construction stadium at Mahaling. The same day, Gobinda Sahu was arrested from a sugarcane field.
