Several villagers of Sagarsahi under Kaptipada police limits in Mayurbhanj district were left dumbstruck after receiving power bills even though they didn’t have any electric connection to their villages.

Irked villagers reportedly staged a road blockade at Patharakhani Chhak on Thursday demanding immediate electric connection to their village. The protesters shouted slogans against the State government and displayed placards to press for their demand.

Road communication on the Kaptipada and Thakurmunda road was halted due to their protest till the latest reports were filed in.

As per sources, despite assurances by the local administration, electricity connection still remains a day dream for the Sagarsahi villagers. Though electric poles have been supplied to the village long before, they continue to bite dust.

However, to their utter shock, many villagers are getting power utility bills for the last few months without even getting electric connection to their houses.

“Some employees of the power company had come to collect the electric bill from us last week. We told them about their plight as we are still to get electric supply to our houses. But they were clueless,” alleged a villager.

“This kind of lackadaisical attitude and ridiculous act by the company is not acceptable. We will continue our protests until every household in our village gets electric connection,” he said.

Meanwhile, comments from the regional electricity division could not be obtained over the allegations levelled by the locals.
