Angry villagers demolished a portion of an under-construction boundary wall of Karanjia MLA and Women and Child Development Minister Basanti Hembram at Ankura village under Karanjia block in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday.
According to a report, Minister Hembram is constructing a boundary wall in her village Ankura. The villagers had been alleging that the wall was being constructed encroaching upon a portion of the village road. They alleged this would make the road narrow and cause problems for commuters.
Earlier, they had taken the matter up with the contractor engaged and the Minister. It infuriated them when they found their pleas to have fallen on deaf ears and the construction was still going on.
Eventually, their pent-up anger burst out and they pulled down a portion of the under-construction boundary wall.
The incident has now been the matter of discussion in the locality.
“She had constructed two pillars on the government land. Despite our objection on several occasions, she had been going on with the construction. Finally, we had to take this step,” said Draupadi Mohanta, a villager.
Expressing her anger, another villager Ketaki Mahanta said, “We had requested her to construct the wall on her own land. Without paying any heed to our pleas, she went on with the construction work encroaching upon the government land.”
