Bhubaneswar: A day after cyclone ‘Yaas’ ravaged the coastal districts especially Balasore, Bhadrak and Kendrapara in the State, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Department on Thursday sought a preliminary report on the damages from the concerned authorities.
Heading a review meeting with the secretary and directors of the Agriculture department in virtual mode, Minister Arun Sahoo directed the district level officials to visit the affected areas and prepare preliminary reports on the damages caused to agriculture and allied sectors due to the cyclonic storm.
“The next course of action will be taken on receiving the preliminary reports from affected districts,” the Minister said adding that district authorities have also been directed to produce detailed reports after rain water receded in the affected regions.
The district officials would also assess the losses caused to cattle and poultry farms, the Minister said.

According to reports, several hectares of farm lands were swept away by the high tidal waves in coastal regions while incessant rains induced by the cyclonic system also played havic on farming sectors in the northern parts of the State.
Several roads and river embankments also suffered damage due to rain and wind in Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj and Jagatsinghpur districts.
Baitarani river continues to swell since last night due to cyclone-induced heavy rains in the upper catchment. A medium flood loomed in the river as it touched the dangle level at Anandpur in Keonjhar district.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to conduct an aerial survey of the affected areas today.
