The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday further relaxed the cap on the number of guests attending marriage ceremonies, funerals and other ceremonial functions in the State’s capital city. Now, the number of people congregating at these venues has been increased to 250.
In a fresh order issued on Saturday, the civic authorities said that it has withdrawn the restrictions related to gathering and the total number of persons to be allowed in functions related to marriage/ death rituals/thread ceremony within its limit.

Earlier on October 10, the BMC had limited the maximum number of people attending marriage and funeral related functions and thread ceremonies to only 50 within its jurisdiction.
Though the State Government has permitted other parts of Odisha to continue with the maximum number of 250 attendees in such gatherings, the BMC had limited the number of guests in these functions to 50 as the Covid-19 cases remained high in Bhubaneswar in comparison with the other parts of the State.
With 142 Covid-19 positive cases reported on October 29, the cumulative number of cases in the State Capital jumped to 1,18,076. The active cases stood at 3,015 while 1,052 succumbed to the disease and 1,13,988 have recovered so far, as per a data released by the BMC yesterday.
Similarly, a total of 25,94,297 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administered to the people in the Capital City. Out of this, 13,87,390 have received the first dose and 12,06,907 have received both the doses, the BMC had stated yesterday.
