Assault on lawyer: Chargesheet filed against 7 doctors of SCB Medical college

Chargesheets have been filed against seven doctors of SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack in connection with assault on a lawyer, Mangalabag Police informed the Orissa High Court on Monday.  

The chargesheets have been filed following the completion of probe against the doctors for assaulting advocate Sapan Kumar Pal in October last year. They have been charged under Sections 341, 323, 506 (Criminal intimidation), 294 of IPC. 

As per the legal procedure, the accused doctors will now face trial. 

In October last year, Pal had gone to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment of his relative where he was attacked by a group of doctors. A case was registered at Manglabag police station then. 

However, Pal had moved the Orissa High Court alleging lack of progress in the case. Taking serious note of the case, the HC had issued notices to DCP and Manglabag police. 

In reply, the DCP and Manglabag police had explained that the SCB authorities claimed that they did not have CCTV footage of the incident. The court later directed the DCP to probe the case and submit a report. 

After completion of the probe, the DCP informed the court that chargesheets have been filed against seven doctors under Sections 341, 323, 506 (Criminal intimidation), 294 of IPC. 

The DCP further informed the court that assault cases have been registered against around 30 doctors in the past three years.
