Nine-year-old girl 'Manjula' of Nabarangpur, who suffered decay in one of her hands after she was bitten by a poisonous snake in June this year, has got a new lease on life. After undergoing two surgeries at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, the minor girl is recovering fast.
The hospital authorities informed on Tuesday that Manjula will be discharged tomorrow.
As reported earlier, nine-year-old Manjula, a resident of Balijhor under Raigarh block, was bitten by a cobra in June when she was playing in front of her house. She suffered agonising pain in her right hand as the wounds kept decaying.

Her helpless family couldn't afford the costly treatment and had kept the poisonous snake in captivity.
She was initially admitted to the Umerkote Community Health Centre and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital for better treatment. Subsequently, the minor girl was taken to MKCH Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Her plight was first shown on OTV with an appeal to the government for help.
Following this, the State government swung into action and announced to bear her treatment expenses.
Later, Manjula was shifted to the SCB and her treatment started under the supervision of Dr Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak, chief of the Plastic Surgery department while a team of experts from various departments including Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Cardiothoracic was formed. The victim was under treatment for around 3 months in between during which she underwent two surgeries.
Though Manjula hasn't yet completely recovered, her health condition is stated to be stable and her hand with decaying wounds is safe.
