Around 1200 gram of gold will be required to renovate the ornaments of the Holy Trinity at Puri Jagannath Temple. The required amount of the precious yellow metal will be brought from Lord Jagannath’s bank account with the State Bank of India.
As per the official sources, the two golden Kundala (earrings) and two Sribhuja (hands) of both Lord Jagannath and Balabhadra which have decayed and become unbearable after years of use will be repaired by goldsmiths.
The bangle, fingers, and palm of the Lords’ Sribhuja will be intricately repaired keeping intact the centuries-old traditional design and structure. Since all the jewellery items of Goddess Subhadra are intact, they will not be repaired, chief administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Krishan Kumar said.

As many as four experienced goldsmiths who have previous experience in repairing of the deities’ ornaments will be deployed for the renovation works. A non-governmental organisation has been given the task of completing the project well before the Suna Besha of the Holy Trinity on July 21.
All the repair works will be carried out from tomorrow, the Dwadasi tithi or 12th day from the Snana Purnima under the strict observance and tight security on the Nabhi Kata mandap.
Once renewed, the ornaments along with several other pieces of elegant jewellery weighing a total of over 200 kg will be used to embellish the three deities seated on their chariots on the occasion of Suna Besha, the golden attire ritual which is observed a day after the return of the deities from nine-day sojourn to Gundicha Temple.
