The Puri Police has put in place elaborate security arrangements in the holy city in view of New Year’s Eve on December 31, when the land of Lord Jagannath will be reveling in festivities and celebrations welcoming New Year 2025.

In a bid to avoid any kind of unwanted chaos, thefts, public nuisance or any other bad situation, the Puri police have heightened security arrangements.

“Puri is a world-class city that stands as a beacon of discipline and organization. In view of the large influx of devotees and tourists, special arrangements have been made to ensure safety, convenience, and efficient management during the celebrations,” the Puri Police said in a press release.

Safety and Security Measures: To ensure smooth darshan of Lord Jagannath, special barricades have been set up from Market Chhaka to the temple.

Temple Security: The temple has been divided into 5 security zones inside and 4 zones outside for effective crowd management. Adequate deployment of personnel has been ensured to maintain discipline and safety.

Traffic Regulations: Traffic management has been divided into 2 zones for outside traffic and 4 zones for inside traffic. Parking zones have been identified and secured to avoid congestion.

Special Security Zones: A No Vehicle Zone has been established from Subash Bose Street to the Light House to provide a pleasant experience for visitors on the beach.

Control Room: A 24-hour Integrated Control Room above the Traffic Station has been set up to monitor and manage all operations efficiently.

Beach Safety: An outpost has been established on the beach with officers and force deployed for tourist safety. 120 lifeguards are stationed at various points along the beach to assist tourists.

Care for Senior Citizens and Special Needs Visitors: A dedicated team, supported by Yuva Shakti volunteers, will visit senior citizens and differently-abled individuals to ensure their safety and comfort.

Anti-Snatching Teams: Special anti-snatching teams have been deployed at public places to prevent theft and pickpocketing.

Tourist Spots: Enhanced security and management have been arranged at key tourist locations, including Konark, Satpada, Ramchandi, Jahaniapir, and Baliharchandi.

Hotel Celebrations: Zero Night celebrations in hotels will be closely monitored to ensure the safety and enjoyment of tourists.

"We urge all residents, pilgrims, and tourists to cooperate with the police, follow regulations, and contribute to the peaceful celebration of the New Year. Puri Police wishes everyone a safe, joyful, and prosperous New Year 2024! We humbly request the people of Puri and all devotees to extend their cooperation in making the New Year celebrations safe, smooth, and memorable for everyone," the release read.
