Dream girl Hema Malini was known as a highly dignified personality during her heydays. To date even after venturing into politics, the Bollywood actress has maintained that personal charm and dignity due to which people still are a bit afraid of approaching her directly. During her recent interview, she revealed a lot of interesting things from her debut apprehensions to working in Baghban after a long gap.
But one particular incident narrated by the Basanti of Sholay gives an insight into the thought process of Hemaji as an actress and how she always stood her ground when she felt uncomfortable due to demands from the producers or directors. Recalling one incident, Hema Malini said that there was one director who once asked her to remove the pin of her saree.
Hemaji did not like this suggestion and said that if she removed the pin her saree will fall down. But that was what the director wanted to happen and it was quite common for actresses even in those days to give in to such demands. But the South Indian beauty came from a conservative family and just refused to do so.
She even related an incident that Raj Kapoor had earlier come to her with the offer for Satyam Shivam Sundaram which later went to Zeenat Aman. Even though Hemaji had made her debut with Raj Kapoor who was forty years older than her with Sapno Ka Saudagar, she was not ready to do this movie. Even Raj Kapoor knew that Hemaji will not do the role. Raj Kapoor told her that he knew that Hema Malini will not do the role but still was keen that she should do it.
Interestingly, Hemaji wanted to do only one movie and go away. She was rejected by a director after giving her a role and shooting for 4 days. This made her feel very bad and that is why she wanted to show him that she can do good work. But by the time the Bollywood superstar of the 70s completed her first movie, she had big banners lining up with more projects, and thus her journey began.
