Malayalam film Marco, starring Unni Mukundan in the lead, is billed as the 'most violent film ever'. Marco Fails to Obtain Satellite Rights!

According to the latest reports, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has rejected the plea of producers for category conversion from 'A' certificate to 'UA' for obtaining TV rights. The regional examination committee turned down the application of Marco producers for category conversion on February 19, the regional officer of CBFI, T. Nadeem Thufali informed PTI on Wednesday.

Further, he added that satellite rights are given to films either with 'U' or 'UA' certificates. He also said that parents should be vigilant to ensure that children do not watch movies with extreme violence. Thus, the committee had made a formal recommendation to the Centre that the streaming of the movie be prohibited on the OTT platform also.

"However, CBFC has no regulatory powers on OTT streaming,” he said.

Meanwhile, Censor Board member GM Mahesh said several private complaints have been filed by citizens thinking that CBFC has the power to check OTT streaming.

PTI quoted Mahesh as saying, “That is why we have made a formal request at the ministerial level.”

Producer Vows Not to Make Films Showcasing Violence!

Meanwhile, producer Shareef Mohammed defended the film and said that the writer-director must show on screen what is required for the movie's subject.

"It is not cinema that should change, but our perspective,” he said.

He also added that Marco was not the first film to showcase violence and all warnings were displayed at the theatres before screenings.

However, noting that the reports of violence among the youth in the State is scary.

He said, “I will not make any film that apparently promotes violence from here on.”

Notably, Marco, written and directed by Haneef Adeni, was cited by political, social, and cultural personalities as one of the films glorifying violence and misleading the youth, in the context of rising incidents of crime in the recent past in Kerala.
