Popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah's iconic character Dayaben, played by Disha Vakani, has been missing from the show for years now. The actress went on maternity leave in 2018 and hasn't returned to the Asit Modi show since then. A couple of months ago, Modi confirmed that Disha will not be returning to the show. Now, the latest report suggests that the makers have locked a new Dayaben.

TMKOC's New Dayaben!
According to an exclusive report by News18, the makers were auditioning for new Dayaben for the show. Well, now the hunt for the iconic character is almost over. Asit Modi has finally liked someone.
An insider revealed to the portal that Modi has shortlisted an actress for playing Dayaben. Moreover, the team is currently holding mock shoots with her. However, the insider didn't reveal the identity of the actress.
The insider was quoted as saying, "Yes, it is right. Asit ji had been looking for a new Dayaben, and recently, one of the auditions impressed him a lot. Mock shoots with the actress are underway. It’s been around a week that she has been here, shooting with us."
However, an official confirmation from the makers is awaited.
Disha Vakani 'Can't be Back'
Earlier in January, Asit Modi confirmed to the portal that Disha Vakani might not return to the show.
Talking to News18 Showsha, Modi said that though he is trying, Disha can't return as she is busy with her two children.
Modi said, "It is difficult for her now (to return to the show). For women, life changes after marriage. Working with small children and managing the house is really a bit difficult for them. But I am still positive. I feel somewhere that God will do some miracle, and she will return. If she comes, then it will be a good thing."

Further, he added, "If for some reason she does not come, then I will have to bring another Dayaben for the show."
