The Royals starring Ishaan Khatter, Bhumi Pednekar, Zeenat Aman, Nora Fatehi, and Sakshi Tanwar in important roles released on Netflix earlier this month. Ishaan Khatter wowed with his shirtless, hot body and controlled acting. But the surprise package was his immense chemistry with Nora Fatehi and of course their fabulous dance.

Despite these plus points, The Royals did not get much appreciation because many OTT viewers felt that the story sucked, was too predictable and Bhumi Pednekar was a misfit for the lead role. That is why when Netflix announced The Royals Season 2 OTT viewers were shocked.

Concept of hate-watching help bad content make a profit on OTT?

Of late many major OTT platforms have been renewing seasons of the series that were not well received or even liked by the audience.

Even OTT movie releases like The Archies and Nadaaniyan were a dud and no one knows why in the first place they were approved. However, now a few Reddit users have come up with an explanation that somehow indicates that even such loss-making ventures that are not impressive enough to attract attention have emerged as profitable and the reason is surprising.

One of the Reddit users has said that even low-quality content sometimes is profitable for digital platforms because hate-watching is one of the most loved pastimes among many viewers now. Making memes and commenting harshly has now become a new norm and that is why such types of series or films that are of poor quality also get viewership and remain in the limelight for long.

According to a Reddit user, “Tbh, series like The Royals & films like Naadaniyan & The Archies might seem a loss-making venture to the general public & is heavily trolled for its pathetic acting, casting, and bad dialogues but it's a much more profitable outcome for the platforms than these critically acclaimed shows.”

The user said that hate watching is real and it also leads to a flood of reels that keep on mocking the actors and the show which further triggers interest among viewers to watch it at least once. Ultimately the viewership increases which is reason enough for the OTT platforms to come out with one more season like in the case of The Royals.
