South Bombay effect: Netizens slam dialogue delivery of The Archies star kids

Archies have started streaming on Netflix and the major expectations are from the 3 star kids-Agastya Nanda, Suhana Khan , and Khushi Kapoor. While the critics have given positive reviews and have appreciated everything from the dimple of Suhana to the verve of Khushi Kapoor most of the netizens are not happy.

One of the reasons is the dialogue delivery of these actors. Though in Hindi it seems to be so Hinglish, as the diction is inspired by American pronunciations. Not surprisingly because most of these stars talk in English at home and today’s Bollywood stars also demand Hindi scripts in Roman.

The dialogue delivery of the trio-Agastya, Khushi, and Suhana sounds more American than in Hindi which has left the netizens perplexed. Many social media users have even called it the “South Bombay effect” which is meant only for a handful of audiences and not for the common people.

Years ago Amitabh Bachchan lamented the fact that nowadays actors are more Westernized and speak less Hindi. He agreed that scripts of Hindi movies are also written in Roman English and if he gets a script in Roman he returns it and asks it to be converted to Devnagri.

Nawajuddin Siddiqui also said in one of his interviews that they were handed over the script of a Hindi movie in Roman English which is completely wrong. It is because if you say a Hindi dialogue that is written in English, chances are that you may not be able to pronounce the words clearly and properly.

A few users said that the diction of these The Archies star kids is so bad that it is better to replace them with actors from abroad. So while Zoya Akthtar did come up with a good concept for an OTT release with The Archies she should have tried to improve the dialogue delivery of these actors.

Since these actors are here to stay and make a career in Bollywood, netizens have advised that they should start taking Hindi classes.
