Iconic film Sholay is the 1st film made in 70 mm print, the 1st film which ran across 100 theatres for 25 weeks, the 1st movie which ran in Minerva theatre for over 5 years. The movie was declared as the "Movie of the millennium". Moreover, Sholay is the 1st film made in 3D format which was rereleased in 2014.

Bollywood's He-Man Dharmendra, Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar and Dream Girl Hema Malini along with Jaya Bhaduri were seen in major characters apart from debutant Amjad Khan as the antagonist in the cult movie. 

The characters of Thakur Baldev Singh (Sanjeev), Veeru (Dharmendra), Jai (Amitabh), Basanti (Hema) and Gabbar Singh the Dacoit Sardar (Amjad) are still lively. Among the other characters, Asrani (jailor), Jagdeep (Soorma Bhopali), Sachin (Ahmed), AK Hangal (Rahim Chacha), Mac Mohan (Sambha), Viju Khote (Kaalia) and Helen as the dancer are worth remembering.
