IMDb Most Popular Movies Mid 2024: Kalki 2898 AD, Manjummel Boys grab top spots, beat Fighter, Shaitaan

IMDb has shared the list of “Most Popular Indian Movies” that were released in the first half of 2024. As expected Kalki 2898 AD tops the chart of the most popular Indian movies. But the biggest surprise is the Malayalam hit Manjummel Boys which has grabbed the second spot ahead of Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter and Ajay Devgn’s Shaitaan which are on the 3rd and 5th spot respectively. On the fourth spot is another Southern biggie Hanu-man.

Thus the top 5 include 3 South productions whereas only two Bollywood movies have managed to enter top 5. Laapataa Ladies produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Kiran Rao is on the 6th spot in the IMBb Most Popular Movies in the first half of this year followed by Yami Gautam’s Article 370 on the 7th spot, Malayalam comedy-drama Premalu on the 8th spot and another Malayalam movie Aavesham on the 9th spot. Munjya makes an entry in the top 10 taking the tenth position.

Out of the 10 movies, 5 movies are South Indian, and most of them are Malayalam indicating the growing dominance of Southern movies in India. Although five Bollywood movies are also included in this list, it is surprising that no big releases apart from Fighter and Shaitaan have been able to make it to the list.

One of the reasons can be that there has been no release of any Khan- Shah Rukh, Salman, and Aamir Khan this year which seems to have affected Bollywood’s collection. On the other hand, Kalki 2898 AD continues to progress towards 300 crores in the Hindi belt after crossing 250 crores and defeating Fighter as the biggest Bollywood grosser of this year.

The response to this Prabhas movie has been very huge and the anticipation for the sequel is already high. The next half of this year will see the release of some interesting films including Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Pushpa: The Rule which are expected to do very well at the box office.
