After years of wait, the long-awaited Friends reunion special has finally got a release date, taking fans across the globe on a roller coaster of emotions. Featuring all six original cast members - Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer, the reunion special is dropping on May 27th worldwide. However, fans of the sitcom in India are on an edge as the release date in Indian has not been announced yet.
17 years since the last episode of Friends aired, the reunion of the wildly popular sitcom is no less than a landmark event in pop culture globally. The 10 seasons long series is immensely popular in India as well so much so that India remains one of the few regions where Friends continues to be streamed on Netflix.
The Friends Reunion will be streaming on May 27th on HBO MAX. However, the digital platform isn’t available in India so desi fans have been restlessly asking for an update on how and where to stream the special episode in India. Fans have been tagging OTT giants of India if in case they will be streaming the reunion special like Hotstar streamed The Game of Thrones finale in 2019 along with the US but seems like none of the platforms have plans to be streaming the sitcom episode in India.
Now, as per the latest buzz, HBO MAX is in the works to roll out its platform in India soon. The streaming giant was quote updating, “The team is putting their might behind launching it as soon as possible as they believe the sitcom special will bring them immense traction. Coordinating remotely has been cumbersome, as India continues to battle the second wave of the pandemic. While the international premiere is slated for May 27, the streaming giant might have a date with India in early June, if all timelines are met.”
The special is titled ‘The one where they all got back together and will be the real-life celebration of the beloved show. The reunion was filmed on Stage 24, on the Warner Bros. Studio, where the show was originally shot. The reunion special episode will also include a variety of special guests including David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Lady Gaga, Kit Harington, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon, and Malala Yousafzai.
