Stree 2 is creating a riot in the theaters once again proving that the audience is more interested nowadays in watching horror comedies instead of typical action thrillers, biopics, and romantic movies. Another horror film that caught the fancy of many cinema lovers is Ajay Gnanamuthu’s horror film Demonte Colony 2. Interestingly, this first movie from debutant director Ajay is much different from the typical Southern hits like Kanchana and Aranmanai which later on turned into franchises.

While these two franchises had massive fights of heroes, romance, comedy and all the typical horror movie masala including devotional songs, Demonte Colony 2 manages to establish a consistent tone of horror all through the movie despite a few hiccups at the start like a bar song during the first half and so on.

The movie takes a cue from the first part and then immediately takes the audience through a world full of horror without any dragging sequences. It starts with a recorded video that shows two individuals dropping from a high-rise building and also a person hanging in his apartment.

The twist starts when Debbie aka Priya Bhavani Shankar who has lost her husband but is obsessed with the idea of her love for him decides to turn their love to fruition by opting for artificial insemination using his sperm that was preserved. From here starts the exploitation of Debbie’s vulnerability as the antagonist tries to portray her deceased husband making use of her obsessive grief.

The director has used flashbacks to establish the horror and to some extent has succeeded in maintaining the tone of horror all through the film. Of course, here and there a few loopholes take away the tempo of a few scenes in Demonte Colony 2 which otherwise with crisp editing could have done wonders.

All in all, the franchise does have more scope and can grow further with more movies in the horror genre.
