Years ago Shah Rukh Khan said that he is the last of the superstars in Bollywood. The charisma and the magic that a superstar bring on the big screen in unmatched and very few can ever achieve that. The massive and maddening fan following that draws millions of audience to the theaters has been the monopoly of selected few of the superstars.
Unfortunately, there are many big names today in the film world like Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh or Vicky Kaushal but they are yet to achieve that insane stardom that SRK, Salman Khan, or at one time Amitabh Bachchan enjoyed.
Influencers are more famous than actors sometimes
YouTube and social media influencers have followers in millions. Their videos and pictures are viewed and liked by hundreds of netizens every day. Naturally, the views help them earn in a big way and make them highly popular.
But are they as big as actors or superstars who help the producers earn millions with their magical presence on the screen? In a recent interview, veteran actress Seema Pahwa shared her opinion on the same.
The Badhaai Do actress said, “Acting aaj kar woh dukaan (Wada Pav) ban gayi har koyi kha raha hai har koi khol raha hai. Aajkal toh nayi bimari aa gaye hai. Influencers aa gaye hai. Toh aap muzhe bataye toh hame lag raha hai ki hame toh chale hi jana chahiye field chod ke. Kyunki unke saath hum kaise khade ho sakte hai yaar. Kyunki aap ne reels dal ke jo fame kamaya hai usme mere pachas saal lage hai. Aap mere barabar kaise khade ho rahe ho aake.”
Influencers are now getting acting jobs
She lamented the fact that producers are now reaching out to these influences for movies looking at their reach among the audience and their number of followers. Seema Pahwa asked a genuine question, “20 reel lake yeh followers la rahe hai. Muzhe samaz mein nahi aata unse aap acting kaise kara loge?”

The entire set up of filming a reel and a movie is so different. And since the influencers do not have much experience of acting in front of a professional team, they cannot do their acting job properly in front of the camera and it can be a big pain for professional actors who have to wait for long hours to get one simple shot right.
Can influencers bring the audience to the theaters?
It has become very difficult to attract an audience to the theaters now because today a lot of other entertainment options are available from television to OTT. While there is a certain craze for influencers, they certainly cannot take the place of the superstars& and famous actors who promise 100 crore weekend opening for a film even when the movie is not good.
Big influencers like Kusha Kapila, Prajakta Koli, Ajey Nagar and others have been offered roles in OTT web series and movies but their fame and name can never turn a movie into a blockbuster.
Acting is an entirely different job and making reels and promoting content on social media is an entirely different field. So forcing influencers on the audience just because they have a very high following online does not seem logical. Fans love to see their reels and antics only on mobile and their laptop. But when they go to the theaters, they are more interested in watching big superstars, good acting by the supporting cast and good content.
