Hollywood actor Robert Downey Jr's comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Doctor Doom with Avengers: Doomsday has elevated the excitement among fans. MCU bringing down the curtains over RDJ's iconic character of Tony Stark aka Iron Man was certainly heartbreaking for all. However, his return to the superhero universe met with mixed reactions. However, the latest rumour suggests that RDJ's return to the universe may be short-lived and he may play the supervillainous character only for two films, i.e. Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Though sounds surprising, the latest buzz suggests that RDJ's character could be a variant of Doctor Doom from another Earth of the multiverse and will get killed by Doctor Doom of Earth-616, the main universe. Moreover, the rumour also suggests that the makers will recast Doctor Doom after Avengers: Secret Wars.

Recently, during a Q&A session on Discord (via The Cosmic Circus) with insider Alex Perez, a fan asked if RDJ Doom will be recast after Secret Wars. To this, Perez replied, "I think so, yes. Because the Earth RDJ's Doom comes from isn't from 616, so there's a high chance he'll be recast.
Well, this idea seems to have complied with the thoughts of several fans.
Meanwhile, fans jumped in to share their thoughts. While some claimed that RDJ's Doom is a variant and will be killed by the Doom from the main universe, a few others suggested that the 'Real' Doom will show up and take him out. Well, before fans land with any conclusion, there's is still a lot of time to figure out 'what will actually happen with RDJ's Doctor Doom. Until then, fans need to wait with patience.
Mads Mikkelsen: Popular Choice for Doctor Doom?
Mads Mikkelsen has remained the most popular choice for Doctor Doom's character. Undeniably, a section of fans were enraged after seeing RDJ behind Doctor Doom's mask when The Russo Brothers revealed the face of the supervillain in July 2024.
As it turns out, Mikkelsen actually went a few years back to the audition for Doctor Doom's character. The audition was for 20th Century Fox's trainwreck of a film, Fantastic Four. However, Mikkelsen walked out and the role finally ended up with Toby Kebbell.
As per reports, The Promised Land actor had gone to the auditions but walked out of it because he was just weirded by it.
During an interview with Screen Geek, Mikkelsen said, "I didn't walk out. When I left it, I was just like- this is crazy. I don't even have long arms. What am I doing in here? The audition was only about long arms. No lines. I felt a little funny."
