Salman Khan and controversies go hand in hand and there are a number of instances when his statements rocked the headlines surprising his fans and the public. One such controversy was sparked when he made a statement defending the Pakistani actors post their ban from Bollywood. His remark didn’t sit well with the MNS chief Raj Thackeray who had then slammed the superstar for his remark and even threatened a ban on his films.

The controversy kicked off post the terror attack on an army camp in Uri when the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association imposed a ban on Pakistani actors from Bollywood. The film fraternity was divided on this decision- while some supported the ban till the relations between the two countries improve, Salman Khan’s statement that came in the support for Pakistan artists broke out the row. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Chief Raj Thackeray, who otherwise shares a good camaraderie with the superstar, tore down the latter for defending the artists across the border who come to work in Bollywood.

Thackeray said in response to Salman’s stance, “This has happened a lot of times that Salman Khan’s tube light flickers. We should understand that our soldiers who are deployed at the borders do not have a personal animosity against the Pakistani soldiers but they are dying and getting shot. They are not getting shot by filmy bullets, those are real bullets unlike when Salman Khan gets shot and he gets up back again.”

After raising questions at why Salman is condemning the silence of Pakistani artists to refused to speak on the Uri attack, he further said, “They are saying that artists don’t have any boundaries and so on, so let me ask if one-day Indian soldiers just drop down their weapons and say we will go and watch Ghulam Ali’s concert, will that be fine? Are the soldiers our servant that they keep getting attacked and we back their artists."

The MNS chief concluded by saying, "Our country has a population of 1.5 crore, do we have a lack of talent here that we have to borrow artists from there? These people (Salman Khan and others who backed the Pakistani artists) are foolish and only think about business as their movies are screened in Pakistan. I was told that Pak authorities are planning to ban M.S Dhoni, that is fine but this is not?”

The entire country went into a shock after the Uri attack where the Pakistan based terrorists killed 19 soldiers in an attack on an army camp in Jammu and Kashmir.
