It is the first time in the last many years that no movie of the Khans (Shah Rukh, Salman, or Aamir) will be released this year. Some big projects like Bade Miya Chote Miya by Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff and Maidaan starring Ajay Devgn were released but they were disasters at the box office. Instead, the surprise winner has been Crew led by Tabu, Kriti Sanon, and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Bollywood needs big superhits like Pathaan and Jawan. But, there are no other such biggies that are scheduled to release in 2024, especially movies that can become big blockbusters. That is why now it seems it is up to the Southern movies to rescue the Indian film industry, especially Bollywood from crisis.
High hopes on Pushpa 2, Kalki 2898 AD
Pushpa: The Rule and Kalki 2898 AD are the most awaited movies this year. The craze for Pushpa 2 is so high that the digital rights of the movie created history by fetching a deal of INR 200 crores. Prabhas-led Kalki 2898 AD has a huge star cast featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani. Already the first look of Big B as Ashwatthama has created quite a stir on social media and hence the opening response to this Nag Ashwin-helmed movie is expected to be huge.
Other Southern biggies that are poised to hit the theaters this year are Devara which features Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor and GameChanger starring Ram Charan and Kiara Adavani. Both Tarak and Ram Charan have now India recognition after RRR made them internationally famous. Elsewhere Shankar and Kamal Hasaan are gearing up to release their sequel to their earlier superhit Indian.
Similarly, Suriya’s Kanguva is also expected to emerge a blockbuster with his crisp, period drama. So while Bollywood may fail to live up to the expectations in 2024, the lineup of Southern movies is sure to make up for them.
