At the event, the PK actor was asked about how he continues to experiment with roles with tough competition from peers who maintain a particular image. Aamir made a surprising revelation about his remuneration.
He revealed that for the past two decades, he has stopped charging a fixed fee as an actor. Instead, he earns only if the film performs well.
Aamir said, "Pichle 20-21 saal se main fee nahi leta film karne ki. Toh aagar aapko film pasand aati hai toh mein kamata hoon, aur agar nahi, toh mein bhi nahi kamata hai."
Further, he also discussed the economics of filmmaking and emphasised the importance of a movie recovering its production cost. He said that a film needs Rs 20-30 crore to cover its basic expenses.
"If the production is mounted at Rs 200 crore and the star charges a hefty fee, how will the film recover its cost if it flops?" questioned Aamir.
Moreover, he also explained that his approach is not new but he follows the oldest model of earning for a performing artist. Furthermore, he also added that this old approach offers him freedom and allows him to take creative risks and tackle challenging subjects in his films.
