Karan Johar has introduced many star kids under his Dharma Productions banner. But it is his first batch of students who really became successful in Bollywood. They are none other than Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, and Sidharth Malhotra.
After debuting under the banner and direction ofKaran Johar with Student of the Year the trio’s career went separate ways. Both Varun and Sidharth worked with Alia Bhatt in different movies. Some were successful whereas others did not do well. They have even worked in many Karan Johar movies. But overall their journey in Bollywood ever since they debuted more than a decade ago has been good. Rather Alia Bhatt has progressed much ahead of Varun and Sidharth having grabbed some big projects.
Dismal year for Alia, Varun and Sidharth Malhotra
After the success of Gangubai Kathiawadi, many hailed Alia Bhatt as the Lady Amitabh Bachchan of Bollywood. At least that is how all her PR machineries tried to establish. This success not only gave her her first National Award but also gave her the belief that she could carry a movie on her shoulders all alone. That is why she decided to do Jigra with a newcomer Vedang Raina. Alia also co-produced this flick with Dharma and both Karan and the Bollywood actress had high hopes.
But Jigra tanked badly and was out of the theaters within a week.
Sidharth Malhotra’s Yodha also faced the same fate. Produced by Dharma Productions, it could have been Sid's comeback vehicle, as he has been struggling to give one decent theatrical hit. Although his OTT release Shershaah did quite well on the digital platform, the audience has turned their backs on his theatrical releases. Yodha, released this year, also met with the same fate.
Baby John is the biggest failure of 2024
Varun Dhawan’s Baby John was expected to make him a big superstar since the movie was produced by famous South Indian director Atlee. The Jawan director himself made big claims predicting that Baby John would be one of the biggest blockbusters of Dhawan’s career and make him a superstar and so on.
Unfortunately, none of the hype around this movie lived up to the expectations. So overall the year 2024 was very bad for Karan Johar’s students - Alia, Sid, and Varun.
