The longest-running serial on Indian television, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah recently completed 15 years. Even today, the show continues to be in the top 10 and its old episodes are also watched with great elation in Indian homes. Its characters like Jethalal, Bapuji, Dayaben, Popatlal, and Tappu are like household names and social media is replete with memes and jokes made using them as themes.
It is not an easy task to run a show for such a long time and naturally, there have been a few hiccups in this journey of TMKOC. From actors like Disha Vakani, Neha Mehta, Shailesh Lodha, Bhavya Gandhi leaving the show for different reasons to a few like Ghanashyam Nayak and Kavi Kumar Azad leaving this world, there have been many problems that the show has faced.
The recent controversy triggered by Jennifer Mistry who played the character of Roshan Bhabhi for so many years has affected the show negatively.
Other actresses like Priya Ahuja aka Rita Reporter and Monika Bhadoriya aka Bawri have supported Jennifer’s fight against the production house. Most of the actors who left the show have been replaced by new actors and the show continues to enjoy a good run. But there is one actor who has not been replaced and that is none other than the lead star-Disha Vakani who has made the character of Dayaben unforgettable.
It is not as if the production house never tried to replace her with a new actress but they could not find a suitable replacement. And that is because Disha’s Daya has been iconic. Fans have repeatedly requested the actress and even the producer Asit Kumarr Modi to bring Disha Vakani back.
But for the last 5 years, there has been no confirmation from Modi regarding it although there have been rumours a couple of years ago that she wants to return to the show but on certain conditions. Reportedly, these conditions did not suit the production and hence her return was not possible.
However, after all the negative publicity that TMKOC has gotten due to certain allegations by the actresses from the show, Asit Kumarr seems eager to divert the minds of the audience toward the show’s content once again. And that is why to mark the 15 years of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Asit Kumarr has promised that Disha Vakani is returning soon and that is one promise that the fans of TMKOC want to be fulfilled as early as possible.
