Amid huge outpouring of anger over the recently-announced Class 10 results by students and guardians across the State, the Odisha Secondary School Teachers’ Association (OSSTA) has added fuel to the row by terming cancellation of the board examination as a ‘historic blunder.’
Addressing a presser, the association said there was confusion over the alternative assessment system adopted by the government from the very beginning as it was apprehended that it would impact meritorious students.
“We were apprehending that the basis of the evaluation would affect the meritorious students most and exactly the same thing happened. The BSE must make the criteria of evaluation public immediately,” Prakash Chandra Mohanty, general secretary of OSSTA, demanded.

“If the board or State government go for offline examinations of the aggravated students, the marks of both the examinations and alternative evaluation must be taken into consideration and results be finalised from the best one,” Mohanty added.
OSSTA president further urged the government to allow colleges to prepare their own merit lists.
Amid state-wide students’ unrest over Class 10 results, the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) today defended its move and claimed that the assessment this year was flawless.
At a press meet, BSE President Ramashis Hazra clarified that the Government had directed the BSE to prepare an alternative mode of assessment based on which marks can be awarded.
