The National Education Policy (NEP) is a judicious blending of tradition and technology. It will be so designed that our nation would be able to be at par with other nations, said NCERT Director Prof Dinesh Prasad Saklani, who was on a Bhubaneswar visit on Sunday.
Informing about the new courses to be introduced, he said, “Coding and Vocational education will be introduced. They apart, the existing curriculum will be restructured, as per requirement.”
“The aim is not to make the children learn by rote but to make them understand things. The ultimate aim is to produce good human beings. Given the progress, I believe we will implement it across the nation at the earliest,” said Saklani adding they are at present simultaneously working on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE ) and for others.
The poorest of the poor students will be benefited from the NEP as it has them in its focus and it is progressing with that vision, added Saklani.
Regarding private schools not using NCERT books, he said, “To do away with this issue, both the Central and States should work in tandem. Care should also be taken to ensure students shouldn’t read duplicate books.”
“The NCERT is preparing books for the entire nation. They should be purchased. It will also take the lacunae, if found anywhere, into consideration and corrective measures will be taken accordingly,” said Saklani.
When asked about the language through which education is to be imparted to students, Saklani said, “The NEP offers multilingualism. If a child learns more than one language, it will be more beneficial to them. Parents shouldn’t have ifs and buts in this regard.”
