The Odisha government is judiciously monitoring the Covid-19 situation and appropriate decision will be taken on the reopening of schools, said School and Mass Education Minister, Samir Ranjan Dash on Sunday.

According to Dash, since children are likely to be affected in the anticipated third wave of Covid-19, the State government has started initiating special measures to improve the health infrastructure for the vulnerable population.

“As there is a threat to children in the third wave of Covid-19, the government is making all infrastructure ready to deal with the situation. Only after reviewing the situation in coming days, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will take the appropriate decision on reopening of schools,” said Dash.

However, it will not be appropriate at this juncture to say it for sure when schools will reopen in the State, the minister said.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government has decided to telecast video lessons for class 12 students on Doordarshan in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The video lessons for the subjects, Physics and Chemistry, will be aired from June 17 to June 22, informed the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education.

The Director of Secondary Education stated that the decision had been taken to conduct classes for secondary school students through virtual mode due to an unprecedented situation arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dash said that lessons for students of class IX & X will be streamed on Youtube from June 17, 2021. “A meeting of District Education Officers (DEOs) has been convened on June 18 to chalk out a detailed strategy and review the preparedness. We will utilise all resources to ensure that education is imparted through appropriate means to students,” said Dash.
