The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has urged institutions to consider ‘midway admission’ of students.
The AICTE has observed that while pursuing the Engineering and other Degrees, due to some unfortunate circumstances midway, a brilliant student misses the chance of completing his/her program/course because of the difficulty in seeking admission to Technical institutions.
Similarly, representations have been received from the students selected in reputed organizations like NDA and similar other eminent organizations where the physical fitness aspect has been given top-most priority. In case of any unfortunate incidence of injury leading to surgery, the candidate is declared as partially unfit and boarded out on medical grounds compulsorily from the organization.
These candidates also pursue their Diploma BA, B.Sc, B.Tech, M.Tech' courses simultaneously with the service from the same organization but are unable to complete them in such circumstances.
In a letter to the vice-chancellors of technical universities and principals of AICTE-approved institutions, the Council has requested, “Criteria for sympathetic consideration of such genuine cases for admission through lateral entry may be explored.”
As per AICTE, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 already provides for multiple entry-multiple exits, crediting the courses completed in the Academic Bank of Credit and making use of it later, in the same place or elsewhere.
