The ‘Danda Nacha’ festival in Berhampur took a tragic turn after a dispute led to the murder of a committee member. The incident unfolded during the Danda Nacha festival in the Badabazar area.
The youth identified as Jagadish Panigrahi, a member of the Belagaon Danda Nacha Committee was stabbed to death by a man and his son following an altercation.
Violent Altercation
Jagadish Panigrahi was allegedly attacked by Trinath Panigrahi and his son, Pradeep Panigrahi, amid a disagreement during the festival's ritual procession. Reports indicate that the conflict escalated quickly, resulting in Jagadish being stabbed in the throat and other body parts.
As per sources, the main accused Trinath is the head of the Belgaon Danda Nacha committee. He was helped in the fatal attack by his son Pradeep Panigrahi.
In a moment of intense anger, Trinath and Pradeep reportedly assaulted Jagadeesh, targeting his neck and other parts of his body with the knife.
Medical Response and Investigation
Despite rapid medical attention and transfer to MKCG Hospital in Berhampur, Jagadish was pronounced dead upon arrival. Police have detained the suspects, Trinath and Pradeep, and are investigating the circumstances surrounding this shocking violence.
