In a shocking incident at Chachara sahi area under Town Police limits in Khordha, Shaikh Sajid was allegedly hacked to death by assailants over past enmity. The attack occurred on Sunday afternoon while Sajid was returning home. He sustained severe injuries and was declared dead on arrival at Khordha District Headquarters Hospital. Tension prevails as locals demand immediate arrest of the culprits.

In a macabre act, a youth was allegedly hacked to death over past enmity at Chachara sahi area under Town Police limits in Khordha on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Shaikh Sajid.

According to sources, a group of assailants attacked Sajid with sharp weapons while he was returning home in the afternoon today.

Sajid sustained grievous injuries in the attack. A profusely bleeding Sajid was immediately rushed to the Khordha District 
Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where doctor declared him dead on arrival, sources informed.

At the time of filing this report, palpable tension was prevailing at the DHH as locals demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants. 

No comments from the family members of the deceased could be obtained over the incident.

Following the murder, irate locals ransacked more than 20 vehicles including five cars and seven bikes,

Meanwhile, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania and Soumendra Priyadarshi, Director Intelligence have reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

After reviewing the situation, the DGP appealed the people to maintain peace and not to take the law into hands.

“All senior officials and police officers visited the spot during an unusual law and order situation following the murder. The police will investigate the case from all possible angles and necessary action will be taken accordingly. We request everyone not to spread any rumours and maintain peace,” said Chanchal Rana, Khordha Collector.

Awinash Kumar, Khordha SP, said, “The relatives of the deceased have staged a road blockade. However, they withdrew it following assurance of action against the assailants. Further investigation into the matter is on.”

Meanwhile, prohibitory order under sec 163 of Bharatiya Nagarika Surakhaya Sanhita (BNSS) has been imposed in Mouza Mukundaprasad- Ward number- 2, 21, 22 and parts of ward number 1 and 3.

What is not allowed:

  1. Assembly of five or more persons in any public place without permission
  2. Public rally, procession, demonstration, dharna, shouting slogans etc in public areas
  3. Obstruction to public road, highways, footpath and normal movement of traffic etc by any means
  4. Carrying of lethal weapons and arms in public places including lathis, spears, swords etc
  5. Carrying of any kind of inflammable object including fire marshal, burning of tyre, burning of effigies by any individual of group of person at any public place, road, in front of any offices/buildings
  6. Bursting or throwing of crackers etc on the street or public or on moving or stationary vehicles
  7. Using of loud speakers without prior permission
  8. Schools/AWC/College (Govt & Pvt)/ Commercial establishment in the said location shall remain closed

What is exempted:

The establishment like fuel station, health institutions and medicine shops in the above area shall remain exempted from the above order.
