In a disturbing incident, a young lady constable was found hanging inside a police barrack in Balasore district, sending shockwaves across the local police department and the community on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Yashoda Das.
According to sources, the incident came to light earlier in the day when fellow constables noticed Yashoda in a hanging state inside the barrack. They immediately rushed to her aid and attempted to rescue her. Without wasting time, she was shifted to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors unfortunately declared her dead on arrival.
Yashoda hailed from Mandarpur under the Remuna police station limits. Her untimely death has not only created a somber atmosphere within the police force but also raised serious questions about the circumstances leading to the incident.
Tutu Das, brother of the deceased said, “After coming to the hospital, we learnt that she has died. She was in a relationship and it appears that she has ended her life for him. Things will get clear after police examine her phone and chat details.”
What Probe Says?
Preliminary reports suggest that the cause of the suicide might be linked to personal or emotional distress, with some sources hinting at a love affair gone wrong. Though no suicide note has been recovered so far, suspicions are being directed toward a possible relationship issue that may have driven her to take the extreme step.
Speaking to the media, Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) confirmed that an inquiry is underway and early findings point toward a personal reason behind the tragedy.
Balasore SP, Raj Prasad said, “We are investigating the matter. Preliminary it suggests that the incident occurred due to some personal matters. She was mentally distressed as it seems from the preliminary probe. Things will get more clear as the investigation progresses.”
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and a formal investigation has been launched to explore all angles—including professional and personal pressures. The police department has also assured that necessary support will be extended to Yashoda’s family.
