In a shocking development in the sensational murder case of woman constable Shubhamitra Sahu, police on Wednesday exhumed her body from the forests of Ghatagaon in Keonjhar district. The recovery operation, carried out under the supervision of a magistrate, revealed that the victim’s body had been stuffed into a sack and buried deep underground.
Acting on the confession of the accused ‘husband’ Deepak Raut, who is also a serving police constable, the Commissionerate Police reconstructed the crime scene. During the recreation, Deepak led investigators to the exact spot in the jungle where he had disposed of the body. Subsequently, with the help of a JCB machine, the soil was dug up and the remains were brought to light.

Police officials confirmed that Deepak admitted to killing Shubhamitra and then attempting to conceal the crime by burying her in the forest. Investigators believe that his training and knowledge as a police official enabled him to carefully plan and execute the crime, with the intention of evading detection. However, his calculated moves ultimately failed, and he was trapped in the same police net that he once served.
The gruesome recovery has sent shockwaves across the state, raising questions about the betrayal of duty by a law enforcement officer. The Commissionerate Police has assured that the investigation will be taken to its logical conclusion and justice will be delivered to the victim’s family.
