The capital city of Odisha, Bhubaneswar witnessed a shocking act of street violence as a group of youths brandishing sharp weapons, including a machete (locally known as bhujāli), launched a brutal attack on two individuals following a minor parking altercation.

The incident took place near Lingipur Square under Dhauli Police Station limits, spreading panic among local residents.

As per initial reports, the incident occurred when Shiva Prasad Sethi was attempting to reverse his car from his house. Noticing a motorcycle obstructing the path, he honked and asked the vehicle to be moved. This apparently angered a group of local youths, who launched a violent attack in response.

Shiva Prasad and another man, Swapneswar Panigrahi, sustained injuries during the assault.

Eyewitnesses claim that the attackers — identified as Hapi Bhoi, Uttam Mahapatra, and a group of 8 to 10 others — were armed with cold drink bottles and sharp-edged weapons. In the scuffle, a car was also vandalized.

Further investigations reveal that several of the accused were recently released on bail from jail. Their violent criminal background and recent release have raised alarm among residents about growing lawlessness in the area.

The attackers, after confronting the victims in front of their residence, proceeded to damage the vehicle and launched a coordinated physical assault. The injured were taken to a local hospital and are currently under medical observation.

Police have registered a case based on the complaint filed by the victims. Efforts are on to identify and nab all the assailants. Dhauli Police have stated that strict action will be taken against those involved, and surveillance in the area is being increased.

The incident has reignited public concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in certain pockets of Bhubaneswar, especially with known criminals walking free on bail and engaging in violent acts.

Residents have urged the police to ensure regular patrolling and crack down on such goons to restore a sense of security in the locality.
