STF seizes Rs 40 lakh fake notes, brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore in separate incidents

As per initial reports, fake notes with a face value of Rs 40 lakh have been recovered. Three persons have also been arrested in connection with the case. Sources said that the links of the fake note racket also spread to outside Odisha.

The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch on Saturday busted a major racket involving manufacturing and circulation of fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN). As per initial reports, fake notes with a face value of Rs 40 lakh have been recovered. Three persons have also been arrested in connection with the case. Sources said that the links of the fake note racket also spread to outside Odisha.

On August 27, Nilagiri police had arrested two persons and seized fake notes with a face value of Rs 32,700. Balasore SP Sagarika Nath informed that both the accused were arrested after a liquor shop owner lodged a complaint alleging that he had been duped with fake currency notes of Rs 500 denomination.

In April, Baripada police had unearthed a racket involving circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICNs) while investigating a kidnapping case. As many as seven persons were arrested in connection with both cases.

In another development, the STF also seized brown sugar weighing over Rs 1 kg from the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. As per sources, the STF had raided a place near Pipili and seized the brown sugar whose estimated market value is said to be around Rs 1 crore.

Two drug peddlers-Lipun Pandey and Sk Abas- were arrested in this connection. Sources said several cases are pending against Abas and further investigation in this connection is underway.
