A district court in Odisha on Wednesday turned down an interim bail application filed by late gangster Sheikh Hyder’s son. Hyder died in a police encounter on July 24.
Hyder’s son, Sheikh Qadir alias Munna who is a murder convict, filed the bail petition seeking his release to attend the last rites of his father. Munna moved the bail application on July 26 seeking his release for 40 days to complete all post death related rituals of his deceased father.
However, the District and Sessions court judge of Kendrapada refused to entertain the bail petition citing law and order situation, among other reasons.

“After the death of his father, Kadir alias Munna applied for interim bail to attend his father last rites. He had sought bail till September 6, 2021. However, the District and Sessions court judge rejected the bail petition,” Munna’s counsel Rabi Narayan Mohanty said.
Speaking about the reason behind the denial of bail, Mohanty said the district judge apprehended that Munna might abscond if released on bail. Also there might be threat to his life.
Munna had been convicted for the murder of a cement trader from Aul area of Kendrapara in 2011. As many as 19 cases are pending against him at different police stations across the State, including nine cases at Kendrapara Town Police station. Munna has been lodged at the Choudwar Circle Jail since 2011.
His father SK Hyder, who was also facing a series of criminal cases including murder, extortion and tender fixing, died on July 24 after sustaining gunshot injuries while allegedly trying to flee police custody. The incident took place near Simulia when he was being shifted to a jail in Baripada from Choudwar jail due to security reasons when he fell to the police bullets while making an abortive escape attempt.
