The skeletal remains of a young woman were recovered from a deep forest in the Rengabandh region of Odisha’s Malkangiri district, raising suspicion of rape and murder. Police suspect the girl was dumped in the forest after being raped and subsequently murdered.

The skeletal remains have been at the site for over a month, police suspect prompting a wide-ranging investigation into her identity and the circumstances surrounding her death.

The matter came to the fore after villagers discovered the skeleton near a forest pathway that links to the neighbouring state of Chhattisgarh. This proximity has led to increased suspicions of foul play, potentially involving cross-border elements.

Cops investigating the case as a pre-planned murder, compounded by the manner in which the body was callously abandoned in the forest. Malkangiri Police have appealed to the public for any information that might aid in identifying the deceased.

Unidentified Body Found in Rourkela's Brahmani Tarang 

In another incident, the body of an unidentified young man was discovered in a forest under the jurisdiction of the Brahmani Tarang police station, in the Balupatra area of Rourkela. The police have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of death, which remains a mystery pending further inquiry.

The cops are considering both homicide and suicide as potential leads. This incident adds to a concerning pattern, after four murder cases have been reported in the local area in the past four days, said sources. 

“We are looking into all possibilities and following multiple leads,” said a police official. The recent spate of killings has heightened concerns among locals in the area.
