The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested three more persons who were allegedly involved in the loot of Rs 2 crore from a house at Nandan Vihar area in Bhubaneswar on August 2. The miscreants had committed the loot by posing as ‘CBI Officers’.
Earlier, the cops had arrested five persons involved in the loot case.
Bhubaneswar DCP, Prateek Singh had earlier informed that there was a loot of cash of around Rs 2 crore, gold ornaments and other valuables from the house of a senior citizen, Nibarana Pani.
On the day of the incident, Pani was present in the house along with his son. Initially, three persons had entered the house by identifying themselves as CBI officers. Later, two more persons entered the house and gagged the mouths of Pani and his son.
The miscreants then looted the cash and other valuables. Police had zeroed in on the five accused after getting a vital clue from a bag left behind at the crime spot by the miscreants.
Police came to know that one person, identified as Badal was the main conspirator in the case. Badal is a driver working for Pani’s relative. He was aware of the cash transactions at the latter’s house.
Meanwhile, the Income Tax Department is likely to take up further investigation regarding the presence and source of Rs 2 crore cash at the house of Pani.
The TI parade of the accused has been conducted at Jharpada jail, sources said.
