In a scene straight from a Bollywood movie, a gang of armed thieves descended upon Dayanidhipur village, under Soro jurisdiction in Balasore district late on Wednesday night, sending waves of fear throughout the local people.
The group of seven armed robbers stormed into a house and carried out a violent heist. They menaced members of a household, forcefully seizing jewellery valued over Rs 10 lakh and cash amounting to Rs 50,000, after threatening the locals.
Robbery and Violence
The robbers targeted the residence of a villager named Rabindra Nayak, looting jewellery valued at over Rs 10 lakh and an additional Rs 50,000 in cash. Family members were subjected to assault and tied up as the robbery unfolded. The harrowing ordeal didn’t end there, as a neighbour’s attempt to intervene and save them, the robbers opened fire at them, leaving two critically injured.
Two neighbours Rohit Nayak and Balaram Raut sustained bullet injuries while trying to capture the robbers. The condition of Balaram remains critical as he suffered bullet injuries on his chest, reports said.
Emergency Response
After the robbers managed to escape, the villagers swiftly rushed the injured people to the Soro hospital. After preliminary treatment, they were then transferred to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for advanced medical care. Balaram Raut's condition remains particularly concerning, having sustained a bullet injury to his chest.

The Soro police have launched an investigation into this brazen crime, as the community grapples with a heightened sense of vulnerability. Soro police is actively investigating the incident, attempting to apprehend those responsible for this brazen act.
