A retired Jawan on Sunday unleashed terror and brutally hacked a police sub-inspector (SI) and a constable with a sword in broad daylight at Harirajpur under Banki police limits in Cuttack district.
The SI Sambit Swain and the constable Uttam Kar had gone to arrest Jawan Saroj Das when he took out a sword and attacked them, leaving them critically injured.
On-lookers rescued the injured police personnel and admitted them to Banki Hospital. After preliminary treatment, both SI Sambit and Constable Uttam had to be shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for better treatment after their condition deteriorated.
While no exact reason behind the attack was known immediately, Jawan Saroj Das has been accused of creating terror in the village in the past. He had earlier tried to terrorize the people in the village by waving his sword in the air. He had even ransacked an ATM kiosk and attacked policemen who went to arrest him.
As per reports, the retired Jawan has accused two people of duping him of his life savings in the false promise of buying a Hyva truck. Earlier, in a complaint to the IIC of Banki police station, Saroj had accused two persons Ajay Kumar Rout alias Milua and Krushna Mohan Swain alias Bulu of cheating him to the tune of Rs 6 lakh.
Instead of a new Hyva truck, the two cheated him with a second-hand truck and took away all his Rs 6 lakh. Although the two had submitted a court paper promising that they would return the rest of the money to Saroj with interest, they are now avoiding him.
However, the police officials are yet to comment in this regard.
